Testing Procedure

The burst tester measures fabric strength by applying increasing hydrostatic pressure to a circular specimen area via an elastic diaphragm. The specimen is securely clamped, and pressure increases until failure occurs within 20 ± 3 seconds. The measurement is independent of cutting direction since failure naturally occurs in the least resistance direction.

Procedure Steps:

Clamp fabric sample over rubber diaphragm
Increase fluid pressure until specimen bursts within 20 ± 3 seconds (P1)
Record diaphragm height (extension)
Conduct additional test without specimen
Record pressure required (P2)
Calculate actual bursting strength: P1 - P2
